There is an “oldie but goodie” song that comes to my mind when summer arrives: “See You in September.” The words say: “See you in September. See you when the summer’s through.” This song stirs memories of youthful days at the beach, summer break from school, and going to summer camp, always knowing that when September comes, life returns to a very stringent schedule and my friends and I dreading the end of that fun-filled experience. Life never seemed to be as fun and free as those summer days.
As I grow older, the “oldie but goodie” Book is my source of inspiration, not just in June to September, but all through the year. Learning from the Bible becomes an anticipation of how the Ancient of Days whispers grace, help, wholeness, and joy amidst a world filled with chaos and confusion. As I meditate on the wonders of God’s creative order, I am grateful that Christ frees me from the disorder that sometimes threatens to steal my joy. God’s Word is timely and timeless in whatever season of life we are in. Why not spend summer in the camp of Biblical renewal and maybe the “oldie but goodie” song of summer will see a new you in September!
Registration began May 6. Camp begins June 18 and runs through August 1, no camp the week of July 4. Deadline for registration is June 10 and the first 50 kids to register will be accepted. Children ages 6-11 are invited to participate. If you know kids who want to come, please have them register early. Cost: $30 per child for the summer, scholarships available. Children must be at least 6 years and no older than 11 by June 18, 2012.
(For more ideas or donations go to Oriental Trade Co). Also, if you have coupons to Michael’s Crafts or JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts, please donate them to the day camp! (I am also looking for an adult who will help plan and organize the crafts for the kids. This is just to organize and help with preparing. You will not have to be here for the hours of day camp).
Young Disciples Ministry is a Christian Education experience for children ages 4 through 2nd grade and meets the 2nd half of worship. During the months of July and August, we will be helping the children learn about the Bible and worship. Parents and Guardians, please walk your children to the back of the sanctuary after the children’s message and the teacher will walk them upstairs. Please come and pick up your children upstairs at the end of service. Also, I would like your information such as addresses and phone numbers if it is not in the church directory. Thank you!
Nursery Care Givers are needed for substitution in the summer. If you are willing to work in the nursery, please see Rev. Miles. Our children are God’s gifts to us and we need your support and help.
Thank you to Lynne and Ken Kubit for graciously serving the breakfast for the Confirmands. It was lovely and food was excellent. Thank you for all your hard work in serving us!
Thank you to all the Metropolitan community who supported me for ordination. You have blessed me and I am so grateful to serve the Lord with you. The ordination service was a memorable experience and I will treasure it always. (Despite the heat!)
Congratulations to all our graduates from Kindergarten through Graduate School and Medical School. May the Lord keep you strong and as you continue to be a student in God’s school of life!
Happy Summer to all,
Rev. Cathee Miles
Minister of Discipleship and Spiritual Formation
